I started these maps when I moved to the Bay Area in 2007. My initial idea was simply to keep track of restaurants recommended by friends, but I quickly found it was a great way to record my time in the city, very similar to photography. Building them in Google Maps has also proven useful for friends visiting the area and looking for tips of their own.
With our move back to Texas, I'll be fleshing out the Austin and San Antonio maps. Hopefully all these will come in handy to someone, somewhere.
